League Notes
VP Virginia:

Walt Lenar thanked everyone for their hard work on getting the scores in to him on time and congratulated all of the winners, runners-up and scholarship winners.

Treasurer:

Bob Dieterle reviewed the WAGS Financial Statement with the Membership. Bob stated that he should receive a final audit by next week.

Secretary:

Thanked everyone for a good season. Mike reminded everyone of the Mandatory meeting on June 23rd. Mike also stated that MSYSA cancelled the contract with the web site provider and is looking into other web site providers.

VP Maryland:

Henry stated that registration forms from last season would not be used next season.

R & D Director:

Bob E. thanked his committee members for all of their hard work during the season. He also stated that the red and yellow cards have declined about 10% this season.

Administrator:

Robin thanked everyone for their cooperation during the season. She also noted that the Sportsmanship Award list was on line along with the end of the season standings. She also stated that the date for submitting field forms was incorrect. It should be July 27th not June 27th as stated in the letter that was sent out to the Membership.

President:

Kathie reminded everyone that the deadline for fees and entry forms is June 30th . She also mentioned the Mandatory Training Session will be held on June 23rd. All teams MUST send an individual to this meeting. Teams not sending a representative will not be permitted to submit a scheduling request form nor will they receive their registration packets. Virginia session for Virginia teams will be held at the Double Tree, Tyson's Corner from 10:00am - 2:00pm and the Maryland session for Maryland teams will be held at the Hilton Gaithersburg from 4:00pm - 8:00pm.

Kathie stated that there is a real problem with individuals willing to become Registrars. The Registrars that we do have end up with heavy workloads causing them to quit. WAGS is looking for at least two more for Maryland and three for Virginia. Mike Basileo, Head Maryland Registrar, and his son are working to map out club locations versus Registrar locations to try and distribute the workload more efficiently.

Another problem that WAGS is encountering is club reps/field coordinators not notifying the League office when a field is closed. In some cases, we have heard from teams that traveled a great distance to find the field closed. No one from the club called the hotlines to see if the fields were open. In other cases we found out about field closures from NCSL. By the time Robin receives the email from that League, the teams have left and the next available slots for the fields have been taken. It is the club rep or field coordinators responsibility to know when the first game is to be played and either personally evaluate the field or designate someone to evaluate the field and make a decision. We understand that the park ranger may just show up with no warming and close a field. However, in most cases the club knows under what circumstances that a field will or should be closed. This decision must be made at least 3 hours prior to kickoff. You must then call the league office to inform us of any field closures. Do not email the office if the field is closed if there is a game within 3 hours of the closure.

Adele Dolansky Scholarship:

The following girls are the recipients of the Adele Dolansky Scholarship:

Stephanie Holland, Melissa Anderson, Emily Baker, and Justine Itte.

Kathie spoke about each of the girls' accomplishments both on the soccer field and volunteerism.

Election of Officers:

Kathie Diapoulis announced the slate of Officers submitted by the Nominating Committee. The slate of Officers was approved as submitted. The following Officers will serve on the WAGS Board of Directors for the year 2000-2001:

    President - Kathie Diapoulis
    VP Virginia - Walt Lenar
    VP Maryland - Henry Dubina
    Secretary - Mike Sybert
    Treasurer - Bob Dieterle
    R & D Director - Bob Emeritz

Congratulations to all.

New Club Entry:

Takoma Park Soccer Club was unable to produce proof of incorporation and therefore withdrew their request to enter the League at this time.

Good of the Game:

Kathie congratulated all State Cup winners in Virginia and Maryland and wished them luck at Regionals.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm

Respectfully Submitted,

Robin Miller, WAGS League Adminstrator
