Wait List for U-12 Teams
The wait list for the U-12 will be open on September 2nd. All teams that have entered to this date will be entered onto the wait list by lottery and after that date as per WAGS Rule G.6
Beth Dulin, Head Registrar for Maryland, reviewed the process or registering if your team was in a tournament. Too many teams are not writing that they need their packet by a certain date because they are in a tournament. Beth noted that this was discussed at the July 15th meeting.
Kathie stated that this is the first season in WAGS history that you may open your binders because the schedules are on line.
Kathie thanked all of the teams and Registrars for attending the training sessions in July. She stated that it helped tremendously with registration. She noted that in one club, six teams attended the training session and 6 did not. The six teams that did not attend had their packets returned to them with several errors.
Kathie reviewed the new rules with everyone.
League play will begin on Saturday, September 9th. She also stated that League Wide Rainout could only occur after all games on a Sunday are unable to be played.
New Hotline Number 703-241-0099
MLS Playoffs will be played on Sunday, October 15th. Kathie was asked to not schedule games on that date by MLS. Any team that is attending the game that day, may request to have off or play early in the morning. Remember, however, that your team will either double up on a Sunday or play on a weeknight. If you need this day off, the request must be received to Kathie or Robin no later than SEPTEMBER 5TH. Any requests after September 5th will not be honored.
Division Coordinator Changes
The following changes have been made in Division Coordinators:
U-19 Division 1 - Kathie Diapoulis
U-19 Division 2 - Kathie Diapoulis
U-19 Division 3 - Tom McElroy (MSC Gators)
USA Woman's National Team Player Retires
Kathie mentioned that Michelle Akers announced her retirement from the National Team and will not travel with them to the Olympic games.
The WUSA was approved at the USSF meeting last week in New York. We are very excited about women's professional soccer and expect WAGS to help fill the stadiums. Kathie introduced two members of the WUSA staff:
Louise Waxler - WUSA Director of Game Day Operations
Kathy Button - General Manager
Kathy passed out fliers regarding the WUSA at listed the investors for the League. John Hendricks is the owner of the Washington D.C. team. She noted that 22 games would be nationally televised. Tickets will be in the $11-$12 range. There web site address is www.wusaleague.com
Demosphere International, Inc.
Jay Baker was in attendance to answer any general information the Club Reps may have had.
Because of Demosphere was unable to release the field loading prior to the NCSL schedule being released, they have implemented a color code for field set up and take down.
When the Club Reps were able to review the field loading, they were able to review the stacking on each field along with the times to verify that each field was properly utilized. Kathie stated that the reason the field loadings were generic instead of specific was to avoid past problems of Club Reps requesting personal game changes.
Kid Safe Verification Forms
Each Club Rep received a Kid Safe Verification Form in their packet at the June 20, 2000 meeting. This form was due into the WAGS Office no later than July 1, 2000. As of this date, only 12 Virginia Club Reps have returned their forms. If you have not done so, please have them turned in no later than September 15, 2000 or your Club will be placed in bad standings.
Good of the Game
Kathie stated that she attended Regionals in Rhode Island in July and was very proud of all of the WAGS teams that participated.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm
