This meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Kathie Diapoulis and roll was taken.
Chuck Arnone, R & D Director, has stepped down. Wendell Domon of SOTH will fill the vacant slot until the elections in June 1999.
Kathie reported that Walt Lenar is coordinating a "Chalk-Talk" with DC United. This should be available soon to WAGS' coaches.
New Head Registrar for Virginia:
Kathie announced that Jeff Corzatt will replace Mike Gardner as the new Head Registrar for Virginia.
The Adele Dolasky Scholarship Fund
The membership approved a motion to form a committee for the scholarship.
Kathie announced that Demosphere, Inc. has been contracted for 1999 to administer the scheduling of all WAGS and NCSL league games. Jay Baker from Demosphere gave a brief overview of the program.
Kathie informed the membership that the cost for this program would be $10,000.00 per season. She also stated that the league fees would not increase because of this program. The cost would be covered by the profits from the WAGS Tournament.
New Club Entry
The following clubs applied for entry into the WAGS League:
Chantilly Youth Association
After presentations from both clubs, the membership voted to accepted them into the League for the Spring 1999 season. The vote was taken by a show of hands.
Lee-Mt. Vernon Soccer Association
Housekeeping rule changes were accepted without objections.
The following rule was adopted as amended
Page 1 Section C Paragraph 3 - Rule to Read:
Any Club in good standing with the League, which at the start of the WAGS Season, does not have any team entered for League play, on any WAGS Wait List or on a WAGS' High School Sit-Out List will be placed on Inactive Statue. While on Inactive Status, the Member Club may enter teams for League play, add a team to a Waiting List and put a team on the High School Sit-Out List in accordance with all other WAGS' Rules and be removed from Inactive Status. Any Member Club which is placed on Inactive Status at the beginning of the Spring Season Play and is still on Inactive Status at the beginning of the following Spring Season of play will be expelled from the League. Any Club which is placed on Inactive Status at the beginning of the Fall Season of play and is still on Inactive Status at the beginning of the following Fall Season of play will be expelled from the League. Each club so expelled must apply for entry as a new Club in accordance with WAGS Rules.
Each Active or Inactive Member club shall pay a non-refundable fee of $50.00 per Season to the League. Failure to pay this Fee will result in expulsion from the League.
Louise Waxler was introduced as the newly hired WAGS Tournament Director. She gave a brief overview of her plans for the upcoming year.
Good of the Game:
Louise Waxler asked for the League's support for the "Kick's Against Breast Cancer Soccer Tournament" to be held the weekend of April 17, 1999. This tournament will be an eight team round-robin including teams from UNC Chapel Hill, UVA and the U-120 Women's National Team.
Rick Derflinger, (BRYC) announced that Ken Kreiger received the Youth Coach of the Year award at the NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, PA.
Adele Dolansky also received the Long Time Youth Achievement Award at the NSCAA Convention.
Congratulations to both recipients.
