League Notes

Officers Report:

MD VP:  No report

Secretary:    Pat Lusk is the chairperson for a committee to set criteria for new club entry.  Pat has met with his committee members regarding new club entry.  He will be distributing the information in the near future.

Treasurer:  Mike distributed a financial statement to the Club Reps for their review.  He asked that the membership note the higher than average profit from this year’s tournament.  He explained that the reason for the higher profit margin was due to the sale and use of  roll over merchandise from the 2002 tournament, which was never held.  He also asked the membership to take note of the $50,000.00 deficit for the league.  The Board is in the process of reviewing the fees for next season.

He also stated that the CD’s and bonds that WAGS had purchased are not making the interest that they did back in the 1990’s.

R & D Director:    Lula stated that a lot of the U-11 and U-12 cards were for descent.  She urged everyone to remind their coaches, not to argue with the referee, they will not win the argument.   If coaches are asked to leave the field of play, they have been ejected.  They do NOT need to be shown a card.

When the teams have a hearing, Lula suggested that the club reps support the teams.  They do not need to attend the hearings, however they can guide them and prepare them for the hearing..

Administrator:  Robin reviewed the following with the membership:

Scheduling:  U-11 and U-12 teams will begin play at 12:00pm on Sundays when possible.

There may be instances where they must play prior to 12:00pm; such as field availability,

      coaching conflicts, scheduling requests.

Coaching Conflicts:  It was impossible to de-conflict 100% of the coaching conflicts.  In most cases 99% of the conflicts were resolved.  In some cases, however, a coach may have 1-2 conflicts.  In very rare instances there may be 2-3. If there are more then 3, please contact the WAGS Office.  If playing on MD Soccer Plex, it was more difficult to de-conflict the conflicts.

State Cup Games:  Now that MD Cup is single elimination, it is imperative that the teams contact the league office with the conflicts.  They must familiarize themselves with WAGS Rule I.6.d.  They must contact WAGS immediately after the completion of their cup match if they are going to advance to the next round.

This procedure is true for VA teams also.

Hotline Number:  There is a new hotline number which will be available for club reps and primary contacts only.  The reason for this change is because it would take up to 2 hours to update the hotline with field closures because the referees, other leagues and other individuals were using this service.  The WAGS teams are paying for this service.  The number will be posted on the team contact page.

The procedure for a field closure is as follows:

Club rep/field coordinator call the WAGS office (not email)

       Club rep contacts the teams

Primary contact of the team contacts the opponent

Primary contact of the team contacts the team members.

Game Report Cards:  Please fill these cards out completely; game number, field, age group, etc.  This is very important information for the league and referee purposes.

Bull Run/Occoquan:  All teams playing on these fields must have a sign in their window noting that they are there for a soccer game.

81/2 X 11 paper with the WAGS logo on it and stating WAGS LEAGUE GAME.

Robin will send the teams involved this information.  The logo is also on line for download

President’s Report:

            Important Dates:

  • League play begins April 3rd.
  • No league games on April 10, 11 due to Spring break,
  • Adele Dolansky Scholarships due into the league office no later than May 1st.  The applications are on line and Robin will be emailing them to the teams.

Scores:

All game scores must be called in to the division coordinator within 2 hours of completion of the match. The only exception would be a game which is completed by 6:00 PM-6:30 PM must be phoned in no later than 7:00 PM.  When calling in the scores, leave your age group, division, game number and scores for BOTH teams.

Manual Reminders:

  • U-11 teams must understand that no player born after August 1, 1994 is eligible to participate in WAGS.
  • Home team must call opponent at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled match
  • Review Game Conduct in the WAGS Rules (pg. 11 M)

Sidelines: There was a new rule passed regarding sidelines.  All players and coaches will take one side of the pitch and the parents will take the other side of the pitch.  This applies to ALL age groups.

Referee No-Show:  If you do not have a referee at your match, follow directions in rule I. 5 Referee No-show. Do not call Kathie or Robin as they are not certified and are unable to officiate your match......nor would you want them to.

Forfeits: Please refer to the link on the web site, “WAGS Procedures for Forfeits”.

Positive Coaching Alliance:  The Positive Coaching Alliance was well attended by coaches. Kathie is looking into the possibility of setting up workshops for all coaches in the league.

Dr. Tom Goodman:  WAGS will be sponsoring a seminar with Dr. Goodman May 8th regarding the importance of small sided games.  This program preempts a vote by the WAGS membership to begin 8v8 for the U-11 age group in Fall 2004.  All Club Reps are expected to attend. More information will be distributed at a later date.

Dr. Timothy Hewitt:  WAGS will be sponsoring a weekend with Dr. Hewitt in August regarding ACL injuries.  The TAPS program was recommended by the BETH Club Rep.  Kathie stated that she would look into it.

USYS Fee Increase:  USYS will be increasing fees $.25 in 2005 and $.25 in 2006.  Instead of increasing the fees yearly, both MD and VA will be increasing their fees $.50 in 2005.

DC United Opener:  The home opener for DC United is Saturday, April 3rd.

Regionals:  Virginia submitted a bid to Region I and will be hosting Regionals in 2005-2006

ODP:  Although the Boys ODP program will be adding a U-12 age group in Region I, the girls program has opted to wait for a year.

WUSA:   WUSA has launched the “Keep the Dream Alive” program.  Please visit www.wusa.com to find our more information.

MD Pride:  Jack Wetherson has placed information regarding the Pride season on the Club Rep seats.

SASS:  SASS will begin in the Fall 2004 season.  Applications will be on line shortly.  SASS will be hosting teams from DYSA, MSYSA, VYSA, EPYSA, ENYSA
