Earlier this year, the Board of Directors determined that in order to continue to move the League forward, to ensure the interests of our membership and ultimately, to continue to move the game of women’s soccer forward, we needed to add an individual who would have his or her pulse on the most current trends happening in youth soccer. We also needed someone who could relate to and communicate intimately with DOC’s and member clubs on a level different than that of the Board of Directors.
While the Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers, we determined that the amount of time required to fulfill this position expertly and thoroughly meant creating a paid position. The demands and goals that the BOD has for this position is great; basically, a full-time job. The League posted an advertisement for the position and we were overwhelmed by the response. Resumes from across the country were received. After an exhaustive process, the Board of Directors found whom we believe is the person to fulfill our requirements. At the beginning of August 2012, the League officially hired Glen Buckley as the League’s Advisory Director.
Glen’s experience is extensive, both nationally and internationally. He has a USSF “A” license and a USSF National “Y” license; as well as serving as an instructor for the National “B” and “C” courses.
His experience as an international player at both the semi-professional and professional levels will be a plus for players. His experience with ODP at the State and Regional level, as well as being a former DOC are all qualities that the Board believes will expand the League’s mission, and will support and influence women’s soccer at both the youth and higher levels.
Part of the Board’s mandate for Glen is to be proactive with the member clubs and DOC’s. He will serve as a liaison for the Board with our membership in the soccer realm. We also believe that Glen will help to propel many of the League’s plans and ideas to further expand opportunities for young players involved in youth soccer.
Please welcome Glen to WAGS. If you haven’t already submitted the contact information for your DOC or Point of Contact for Coaching Education, please do so at this time.
With Glen’s help and expertise, we will continue to focus on improving the environment for our WAGS players.
Yours in Soccer,
Glen Buckley Letter to Membership
